Lightning protection for wind power systems

Lightning protection for wind power systems   Lightning is a strong long-distance atmospheric discharge phenomenon, which can directly or indirectly cause disasters to many facilities on the surface. As towering platforms above the ground, wind turbines are exposed to the atmosphere for a long time and are often located in open areas, where they are vulnerable to lightning strikes. In the event of lightning strike, the huge energy released by lightning discharge will cause serious damage to the blades, transmission devices, power generation and transformation equipment and control system of the wind turbine, leading to unit outage accidents and greater economic losses.   Wind energy is renewable and clean energy. Wind power generation is the power resource with the most scale development conditions. In order to obtain more wind energy, the single capacity of wind turbine is increasing, the height of the fan is increasing with the height of the hub and the diameter of the impeller, and the risk of lightning is increasing. Therefore, lightning strike has become the most dangerous natural disaster to the safe operation of wind turbine in nature.   The wind power system can be divided into several levels of protection zones according to lightning protection from the outside to the inside. The outermost area is the LPZ0 area, which is the direct lightning strike area and has the highest risk. The farther inside, the lower the risk. LPZ0 area is mainly formed by the external lightning protection device, reinforced concrete and metal pipe structure to form the barrier layer. Overvoltage is mainly entered along the line, it is through the surge protector to protect the equipment.   TRS series special surge protectors for wind power systems adopt an overvoltage protection element with excellent nonlinear characteristics. Under normal circumstances, the surge protector is in a very high resistance state, and the leakage current is almost zero, so as to ensure the normal power supply of the wind power system. When system surge overvoltage, TRS series wind power system for surge protector immediately in a nanosecond time conduction, limit overvoltage amplitude to the safety of the equipment within the scope of work, at the same time release surge energy transmitted into ground, then surge protector and quickly into a state of high resistance, which does not affect the normal work of the wind power system.
